Knee recipients fitted with Zimmer’s cementless NexGen CR-Flex total knee replacement system may have legitimate claims against the manufacturer. The cementless NexGen CR-Flex has been named in a number of lawsuits after a group of knee surgeons found the device to cause Zimmer knee failure in more than 8.3% percent of 108 recipients within 5 years of primary knee replacement surgery.
Although there has never been a Zimmer knee recall for the cementless NexGen CR-Flex, some surgeons have called for its discontinuation.
Zimmer knee recall of MIS Parts:
There has been a Zimmer knee recall for several other Zimmer knee components, including a number of NexGen MIS parts such as NexGen TM Tibial Trays and MIS Modular Tibial Plates and Keels.
The Zimmer knee recall (Z-2409-2010) was issued September 13, 2010 and affects more than 68,000 components in commerce.
Zimmer knee failure in LPS Femoral Components:
Last year, there was an additional Zimmer knee recall involving defective LPS Femoral components, which put recipients at risk of Zimmer knee failure.
All knee recipients fitted with any of the Zimmer knee components in question may be eligible to file a legal action against the manufacturer.
Zimmer Knee Complications in NexGen CR-Flex Model:
Zimmer knee failure occurs when one or several components improperly fit with each other or fail to properly fuse to bone or promote healthy tissue integration. These complications can be extremely painful. Sometimes Zimmer knee failure is accompanied by odd sounds emanating from the device. Zimmer knee failure may result in the need for knee revision surgery, which is often more complicated than primary knee replacement surgery.
